Private tutor in Hoboken, NJ

Education

I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Villanova University with a Minor in Business. I am currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Mathematics Education from Columbia University Teacher's College and I also plan to pursue a certification in special education.

Experience

I have 4 years of private tutoring experience in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus. I am currently pursuing a Masters Degree at Columbia University for middle school and high school mathematics and I plan to graduate in May 2014. I have 2+ years of professional work experience in finance and various other jobs during my high school and college years. I scored a 760 on the SAT Math section and a 690 on the writing section of the SAT. I also scored in the 95th percentile in Mathematics on the GRE. I approach tutoring with a very adaptive and customized mindset. I tailor each session to the student's needs and learning style to ensure the greatest amount of material is understood and retained. I am looking to tutor at the middle and high school levels in any subject from Pre-Algebra to Calculus II. I can also mentor students who are going through the process of applying to college. This can be a very overwhelming time in a student's life and it is important to stay organized and to think critically about what each student is looking to gain out of a college career. I am open to meeting students at public libraries and coffee shops anywhere in Manhattan, Jersey City, or Hoboken (with Hoboken as my primary location). I can also meet students on campus at Columbia University on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Any direct referrals that commit to a minimum of 3 one-hour tutoring sessions will receive a free hour of tutoring for their student.

Hobbies

I have a lot of hobbies! I love the outdoors: hiking, cycling, swimming, skiing, snowboarding, waterskiing, sailing, etc. I was a pole vaulter for the Villanova Women's Division 1 Track ad Field team. I was on my high school swim team, and track and field team. I was also in the marching band and concert bands in both high school and college. I play the piano and the flute, and I am currently teaching myself how to play the guitar. I can also teach beginner and intermediate piano to beginner and intermediate musicians. I also have a passion for volunteer work. I have volunteered through high school, college, corporate, and community organizations for over the last 10 years.
