Experience
I do not have a lot of tutoring experience, however I have been employed as a permanent substitute teacher in the Bayport-Blue Point School District in Bayport, NY, specifically the James Wilson Young Middle School, for the last two years. I have two degrees in English and secondary education and hold a teaching certification for English language arts, grades 7-12, for New York and New Jersey. I also completed a semester of student teaching in an eighth grade English composition classroom in 2008. I have a lot of experience in the classroom teaching different subjects and feel comfortable tutoring at all different grade levels, especially in my certified content area, English, and some levels of mathematics. I am extremely passionate about teaching and am excited to start full time teaching. However, with the poor job market, it's difficult to find a stable teaching job. I'm looking to continue to improve my skills by tutoring and hope to continue to aid students in their education. I have also completed a mentorship program during the 2010-2011 school year with a sixth grade, social studies teacher who has 20+ years of teaching experience. Under her supervision and guidance, I completed a portfolio of my teaching experiences and learned a lot about classroom management, teaching responsibilities, and unique strategies to use in the classroom.
